Well I've 2 wedges so now I know that I'm 2 short and it's time to go get them. The tip about getting wedges that don't reflect the sun in your face is helpful, too.

Hey Jim,

This is a great article. As I start working on figuring out what to carry in my bag, I've been giving a lot of thought to ditching the Ping 2 and 3 irons in my bag and replacing them with hybrids.

Jim

Nefyn is a great course and location - home of Duffy the young Welsh singer who is now a huge success around the World. As you quite rightly say, if you play Nefyn, you must play the original 18 holes - great track

Porthmadog has a great back 9 holes as you quite rightly say, with the short par 12 playing along Samson's Bay. Whilst many of the holes on the back 9 have blind shots, these holes are so enjoyable playing through thr natural rugged terrain

Royal St Davids (Harlech) is a monster course - you will love it !!! Hang on to your score over the last 7 holes - not that the first 11 are easy by any means ... One of the best links courses you can play anywhere ...

As a grizzled veteran of the NYC golf course portfolio, reading your report on Dyker Beach brought back many memories...although Dyker was one that I've never played but wish I had.

I did play many, many rounds at Clearview (home in Beechhurst was 1 mile away), Douglaston, Kissena Park (talk about short course!), Pelham and Split Rock. I do remember, all too well, players having ice picks in their bags to poke holes in the tee boxes.

I also would hold evening practices at Clearview back in the good old days when the Parks department managed the course. A 6-pack of Budweiser for the park attendant was all it took to have free reign of the golf course in the twilight hours.
